The list of car manufacturers that have officially left the domestic market, following the French Renault and the Japanese Nissan, will soon be completed by the German Volkswagen. The AvtoVzglyad portal discovered this by examining the information received from the brand’s European office.
“We have an unequivocal desire to fully withdraw from the country,” such a statement from an unnamed source close to the Volkswagen supervisory board was published by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
The company is therefore intensively looking for a buyer for its assembly plant in the Kaluga region.
“With each stage of the escalation, we are less likely to be able to produce cars there in the near future,” the paper is quoted as saying by another anonymous representative of VW’s European office.
Recall that Volkswagen, like most other foreign automakers, shut down its Russian factory in the spring. Later, the project of assembling Volkswagen and Skoda models at the Nizhny Novgorod facilities of the GAZ group was completely liquidated. And now, it seems, it’s the turn of VW’s own factory in Russia.
Officially, the group replied to the German publication that management is considering various options for the future fate of its Russian assets and that a final decision has not yet been made.
