Why do some car owners hang a ring on the bumper of their car?
So much has been written on the internet about micro-buckets dangling from trailers of Russian cars that it’s already sickening. But until now, no one has really explained to the general public: Why do some owners of the most ordinary cars hang plastic or metal trim rings on the bumpers or ordinary drawbar eyes of their cars? The AvtoVzglyad portal decided to fill this gap in knowledge.

If you look closely at the stream of cars on the streets of a Russian metropolis, you will soon notice the various hanger rings on the tow bars and bumpers of some nondescript sedans/hatchbacks. We immediately reject the version of the “trailing” use of these rings (sometimes small carbines): they are very thin. Sometimes they are made of thin wire or even plastic. But there are still explanations. One is a result of the trends of motorsport romance. To make towing easier, cars competing in road racing (including amateurs) were fitted with a special ring on a short length of durable cloth cable.

For example, it was attached to a standard eyelet and the ring was “brought out” through some hole in the bumper. For such a towbar, picking up a car is much easier and faster. The fact is that in racing, the speed of evacuation of a broken car is extremely important. After all, other participants could collide with a car on the track, causing a massive accident with serious consequences. Overall it broke down like this – march off the track fast! So the belt with a ring sticking out of the bumper became a kind of sign of belonging to the racing world. This has led to yard “racers” tuning their regular cars with this “chip”.

Over time, fake racing “crawled” off bumpers, even down to normal towing eyes from motorsport fans and, in general, enthusiasts to give a personal passenger car a cool look. According to the principle: “it is not clear why, but let it be”!

The second explanation for the autopsychic phenomenon “bumper rings” refers to the Japanese tuning subculture. Even in the last century, local enthusiasts of “reducing the clearance” of their car hung on their rear bumper a plastic ring on a fabric strap, “privatized” from the interior of a bus (passengers cling to it on public transport) . And while it was attached to the bumper and dragged on the asphalt, “tsurikawa” (as this fetish is called) showed the world the degree of “understatement” of the car’s suspension. And the coolness of the car owner.

In Russia, the person who hangs an improvised “tsurikawa” from the rear towing eye of his car, made of improvised materials, usually tries to demonstrate to others his involvement in the world of “old-school” Japanese car tuning. Deliberately punching the plastic of your “swallow” bumper is somehow not with your hands. Even for the sake of “tsurikawa”, which can now be ordered easily via the Internet in China. There are many for sale – all colors, sizes and designs…
