According to the results of January-September, all major indicators of accidents on the roads of the Moscow region have decreased, if we draw a parallel with the same period in 2021. For example, the total number of accidents decreased by 14.3%, the number of car deaths accidents – by 8.2% and the number of injuries – by 15.9%. However, there are nuances.

The Union for Road Safety reports that the number of accidents related to a collision involving two or more vehicles has fallen by 15.9%, and with a car leaving the highway at night by 9.7%. At the same time, in the latter case, the number of deaths increased significantly – they increased by 29.4%. More often, Russians died at “oncoming traffic” on municipal roads – the figure rose by as much as 38.3%.

The authorities have something to think about: Perhaps instead of constantly repairing federal highways, it would be better to take care of the streets of local importance? Clear the road surface, install lighting systems. This not only saves many motorists, but also pedestrians. Incidentally, the number of accidents involving them has also fallen – by 13.7%. But there were more deaths – by 3 people.

So why, despite the growth of some indicators, are the main ones still declining? The Union for Road Safety believes that the whole point is in social events (think of the same “Light up” round) and complexes for automatic photo-fixing of violations, which are increasing every year.

But it seems that the drop in the number of accidents is not due to this at all. And the fact that after the events of February, the Russians began to drive their own cars less often and more accurately. Repairs have risen in price, spare parts have to wait longer due to logistical problems. So the citizens take care of their “swallows” – who knows when they can update them now.
