The public movement “Blue Buckets” turned to food delivery service operators with a proposal to equip bicycle courier boxes with bright light indicators. The AvtoVzglyad portal spoke to the initiator of the appeal.

Moscow began to plunge into the traditional state for this time of year – “darkness, at least put out your eye.” The days are getting shorter, the nights longer, but this does not affect the work schedule of bicycle couriers. This often causes gray hairs among drivers, whose hoods make food deliveries jump out of the dark in the most unexpected places.

Although the delivery services themselves could alleviate the headaches for motorists, the public movement Blue Buckets believes. For example, if you have purchased special light beacons for your employees that inform drivers about the presence of a bicycle deliverer on the road. With such a proposal, the public movement turned to the leaders of the largest metropolitan food delivery companies: “Yandex. Food.”, Delivery Club and “Scooter”:

“As the couriers of your services deliver food all year round through individual mobility, and often use them on the road, we encourage you to do your part to improve road safety and consider taking the back of food out. boxes to rest with red a flashing indicator light indicating a person on the road. We are also proposing to require delivery drivers to turn on these signal lights around the clock, as well as introducing a universal, easy-to-read number identifier on the boxes for employees in the event of conflict and disputes en route,” the call reads.

The arbitrariness with which couriers move on public roads is a major problem for drivers in Moscow – the initiator of the call, a member of the Blue Buckets community, Andrey Mogilnichenko, is sure. – It seems to me that the question of how to systematize food delivery requirements and bring them into a common denominator has long been outdated. Delivery drivers are absolutely sure of their impunity and ignore the basic traffic rules – they get nothing for it.

Not to mention that they are completely invisible on the road at night. That’s why we decided to offer delivery services to centrally equip all food transport boxes with bright indicator lights, allowing drivers to see couriers on the road in limited visibility. It also seems to me that they need a universal, well-read alphanumeric personification of food delivery boxes. This is important for identifying a specific courier in case he became a participant in an accident and disappeared. And such cases, unfortunately, are not uncommon…

Recall that in Russia, according to the traffic police, during the six months of 2022, the number of deaths in road accidents involving cyclists increased by almost 5% – 1946 such cases. And despite the regular warnings from experts that using a bicycle or scooter for travel, dismount before crossing the road and avoid an unexpected turn in a residential roadway, put things in order and obey the traffic rules of cyclists and others. SIMs, unfortunately, failed…
