The fraudulent “business” of twisting used car mileage has long been thriving through the efforts of unscrupulous car dealers and resellers. Now this kind of scam has reached a fundamentally new technological level. And because of what, the portal says “AvtoVzglyad”.

Every motorist knows that the lower the mileage of a used car, the more profitable it can be sold on the secondary market. But today, thanks to the efforts of car manufacturers, the electronics of many new models cannot be “twisted” at all. This trend started to take on a real mass character around 2017. It seems: the era of masters of “fraud” with miles is steadily moving towards sunset. But it turns out that the tradition of cheating car mileage won’t go away so easily.

It turns out that even the most advanced electronics of modern foreign cars can still be tricked. Only for this it is no longer enough to visit a “specialist” of the corresponding semi-criminal profile. Now a dishonest car owner has to deal with this company himself and in the middle of the daily use of the vehicle. At the same time, his financial costs are comparable to the amount of payment for the services of a professional “roller”, but the effect is the same. A special device is purchased for this. It can be called differently: speed filter, “mileage filter”, “stop filter”, “stop mileage”, “device for stopping the mileage”, or in a similar way.

Prices: 20,000 – 30,000 rubles per device, depending on the make and model of the car for which the snag is intended. This thing looks like a bundle of wires with two connectors on the ends and a box with “brains” on one of them. There is nothing complicated about installing such a “bug”. Any gas station electrician removes the dashboard from the car, disconnects it from the regular CAN bus and then reconnects it – but through our “mileage filter”. And put the panel in place.

After that, the car owner has the option to stop and restart the odometer at any time – using the standard buttons in the car. For example on the cruise control panel or the volume control of the audio system on the steering wheel. When the gauge is turned off, the odometer and all other electronic components in the car regularly count miles. And when it works, they think the car is stationary.

The solution is quite elegant and convenient for a car owner who plans in advance to deceive the future buyer of his car. The main thing for him is to dismantle the “bug” before selling it. Unfortunately, in this case, even if desired, the next owner of the car will not be able to “grab the hand” of the deceitful seller.
