What nuances are important to consider when “transferring” a car from gasoline to gas?
For most drivers, the economic aspect of converting a car to petrol is the most important issue. That’s understandable – gas is almost twice cheaper than gasoline and can be used in all modern cars. Meanwhile, the use of gas cylinder equipment for cars has its own characteristics, which were picked out by the AvtoVzglyad portal.

In addition to the cost savings, experts note another important advantage of natural gas motor fuel: environmental friendliness. The exhaust gases from the combustion of gas are much cleaner, which reduces the load on the catalytic converter. And the engine is not so “dirty”, and the wear of the parts is reduced by one and a half times. As you can see, the benefits in terms of ecology and economy are quite significant. However, they can only be achieved if a number of conditions are met.

The first is more control over the engine’s temperature. The fact is that when burned, gas releases slightly less energy than gasoline. This means that consumption will be 7-10% higher at the same loads. But the temperature in the cylinders during the combustion of gas is higher than when burning gasoline. This leads to more heating of the valve seats, the valves themselves and the block head. On older engines, this often led to cracked valve plates, burnt-out seats and damage to the top of the cylinders. More heat-resistant materials are used on modern engines, but the problems are not completely solved yet.

The second point is, paradoxically, gasoline. Basically, a cold start and warm-up of the engine is carried out precisely on this fuel, after which the engine power system is completely switched to gas. For example, gasoline is consumed extremely slowly. This causes it to stagnate in the injectors, the fuel rail and in the tank. This creates conditions there for thermal degradation of fuel with the formation of resins and sludge. And fuel separation can even occur in the tank.

To avoid this, you should regularly use injection system cleaners and add an additive to the tank that prevents fuel separation. Such agents may be, for example, a fuel injector cleaner, as well as a gasoline stabilizer.

Finally, another important nuance is gas leaks, which every car owner is immediately concerned about. This problem is solvable: the important thing here is to understand exactly where the leak is coming from. And to quickly find the defect, a special spray is needed. It is desirable to have such a look in the trunk of any “gas” car.

Another important point is the correct choice of motor oil. For a long time it was believed that gas-converted engines did not require special lubricants. But, as they say, time passes and everything changes. Modern natural gas motor fuel contains a small amount of sulfur. And therefore it is not necessary to neutralize a large amount of aggressive substances formed during the combustion process. For such cases, oils with a low alkalinity, which also have a low ash content, are best suited. They produce few abrasive particles during combustion and reduce engine wear.

Similar products are also produced in Russia, but most of the engine lubricants, including those for gas fuel, come to us from abroad, for example, from Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France and more recently from Turkey. In particular, today on sale you can find the Turkish lubricant Lubex Primus C3-LA with a running viscosity index of 5W-30. This fully synthetic motor oil has been specially developed for environmentally friendly engines, including those that run on gas. As stated in the product note, the oil has a high fluidity, which minimizes wear on parts when starting a cold engine, which is especially important in winter. In addition, the Primus C3-LA 5W-30 series lubricants exhibit high cleaning properties that prevent the formation of sludge and soot.
