The Interior Ministry has issued an order that makes one of the 16 currently existing categories in the Russian driver’s license irrelevant. The AvtoVzglyad portal has reviewed the draft document.
The Ministry of the Interior has published a draft departmental decision that actually abolishes the BE driver category. The novella is issued in the form of amendments to the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia of May 13, 2009 No. 365 “On the introduction of a driver’s license.” “BE” allows the driver of a car (gross weight up to 3.5 tons) to tow a trailer of more than 750 kg. In order to get the correct grade for “rights”, a citizen now has to undergo special training and pass a separate exam with the traffic police. He will have to go through this procedure even if he has previously passed the exam for driving an “adult” roadtrain in the “CE” category.
The Ministry of the Interior is going to change the existing order. It wants to “automatically” open up the “BE” category to drivers who simultaneously hold a “long-haul” qualification “CE” and a “passenger” category “B”. The change is expected to come into effect on 1 March 2023.
