Frankly, it must be said that importing cars from Uganda will not be difficult. But the machines themselves do not differ in excellent features and their design leaves something to be desired to say the least. However, the old Zhiguli roam the land and nothing. And here you have a whole foreign car! It’s not all the same for the Chinese to skim off the cream…
Uganda’s car industry was founded for a distinct segment of the population, because the country is so poor that a bicycle for an average family is a gift of fate, no other. Meanwhile, the prototypes once built by local students could become a series.
We ask, if you don’t like it, at least the preference – the Kiira EV city car with a range of 80 kilometers on a single charge, the “savory” Kiira EV Smack electric coupe with a power reserve of up to 500 kilometers and the Kayoola city bus. At the same time, as you might guess, vehicle parts were brought to Uganda from ubiquitous China. True, unlike the “heavenly” products, African crafts are much cheaper. Yet they are far from blatantly calling themselves premium Chinese.
Another question: why do we need electric cars? Especially in regions where people heat their houses with firewood, and on holidays they open gas bottles instead of champagne! Infrastructure – nil, maintenance – nil, and even prices for the infamous electricity are likely to skyrocket again soon.
However, as already mentioned, there are cars in Africa with a more traditional orientation. In Ghana, for example, the Kantanka brand is firmly rooted in the fact that there are several models at the same time. Among them are sedans and crossovers assembled from the remains of Lifan, as well as the Onantefo SUV, built according to the patterns of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Generally cars lined up for every taste and budget.
But in Kenya, the Mobius brand produces a “copy-paste” of the Chinese BAIC Beijing BJ40 – an off-road model called Two. The same Beijing, but the BJ80 already became a donor for the construction of the Nigerian “Gelika” – IVM G80. And what: not only in China but in India they produce their own Mercedes-Benz G-class for the poor.
Moroccan Laraki sports cars will be the icing on the cake. In general, the “cart” among Africans, as you can see, is a dime a dozen. So let’s not run…
