The strongest body: 5 cars that hardly rust
In an effort to find a suitable car, many Russians turned to the secondary market. The choice there is vast, but there are plenty of problematic ones – it’s easy to come across a car with a rotten body, for example. However, there are also cars that have not been afraid of rust for decades. TOP-5 of the strongest bodies – in the review of the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

Car manufacturers treat their cars with anti-corrosion agents in different ways. Some simply apply a special mastic to the welds, while others carry out the so-called hot-dip galvanizing of the body. It is noticeably more expensive, but with such protection the car can withstand 30 years of intensive use, and much more – rust may not appear at all.

One of the most resistant to corrosion is the executive sedan of the Mercedes-Benz S-class in the back of the W221. The renewed version was produced between 2009 and 2013. About the same military say about its follower – W222, which appeared in 2013, respectively. But excellent rust resistance is not only achieved by careful treatment with special compounds. In addition, plastic, carbon fiber and aluminum are widely used in the design and these materials are not subject to corrosion.

Audi does not lag behind the Stuttgarters with its flagship four-door model A8. The body is made entirely of aluminum alloys. As for galvanizing, it began to be carried out in Ingolstadt in the mid-80s. Over time, in this car, only the inner surfaces of the wings, which are covered with moisture-absorbing felt, can succumb to rust, but these are trifles.

Next comes another “German” – Porsche Cayenne (Type 958), which left the assembly line in 2017. The crossover pleases not only with dynamics and controllability, but also with the safety of the body. This is proven by the masters of our car services and the results of research by the Swedish Institute of Corrosion. Interestingly, the Cayenne is also more resistant to rust than its sister Volkswagen Touareg.

Let’s not forget the “classics” that have proven that bodies cannot be destroyed for decades: we mean Volvo cars, of course. And especially good is the 700 series. “Sturdy trunks”, that’s what these angular sedans are called by their owners. Many cars already have a decent mileage, but continue to serve their owners faithfully. The “Swedes” often rust the exhaust system, but replacing it is not a problem. And in general – many repairs can be done in the garage.
