Why Russians won’t mourn car makers who have left Russia

Car brands are bringing in rods from Russia one by one. First we lost Cadillac and Chevrolet, then we lost Renault, then Ford, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz fled. But this is not the end. However, let’s not get angry. And here’s why.

Let’s start with General Motors. It’s not the first time Americans have left both dealers and customers at the mercy of fate. In 2015, the Russian authorities should have punished the world’s largest car maker with money for “framing” numerous owners of mass-produced Chevrolet and Opel models, as well as employees of the plant, the service and sales network operating on the street.

However, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce did not bother to calculate how much the budget got less because of preferential import duties on auto parts, and how much was spent on all kinds of state programs and subsidies. In the same Europe, GM was once “bent” for such a “restructuring” by tens of millions of euros, and this without taking into account dealer compensation.

We are either good or we are fools. As a result, history repeated itself. Overnight, Russia lost three Chevrolet models, a quartet of Cadillac thugs and company employees lost their jobs and money. Probably only the latter were saddened by the departure of the Americans. Good shots don’t go to waste, though. But the public’s confidence in the overseas car industry – how! Expensive “Cadillas” and “Sheviks” and without them no one bought. So there’s no point in going back. Why it was necessary to hold the market for the sake of piece sales, most likely, even the “Jiem” themselves do not know. In general, let’s remember…

The Japanese brand Infiniti for some reason proclaimed mediocre Nissan cars to be premium cars, and also trumped us with ridiculous runs. “Date” on our roads is as “frequent” a phenomenon as the timely arrival of the traffic police to report an accident. And that’s why, frankly, there’s no one to shed a tear, even a mean one, over Infiniti’s departure from Russia.

We won’t be upset because the Ford, which died for the mass consumer in 2019, destroyed our favorite Focuses and other Mondeo’s. And recently the Transit that went home is not of interest to us in the same way that the people of the United States are interested in their own president. There are plenty of light commercial vehicles in Russia and their own: albeit not always angry, but cheap. But if you do not like GAZ with UAZ, there will be “Chinese”: we will not list them – first make them pay for ads.

The Scandinavian Volvo in every way refutes the rumors that it is leaving our market, but the staff in the Russian office has already “cut back”. The freight division is already in the process of selling the company. When it is followed by a passenger car, it is only a matter of time. In any case, we will not lose anything from the flight of the Swedish brand, which has long been in the hands of the Chinese. Cars, although they are sold, are not bought.

However, it is even worse for the overseas jeep, which seems to be there, but it is not. In general, we will not notice his departure in the same way as the disappearances of Dodge and Chrysler, who once “screwed” our country. The same can be said of the Japanese Suzuki with Subaru, which is already unpopular with our compatriots.

Give us Toyota, Volkswagen, Skoda, Hyundai and Kia! We will certainly grieve for these brands. And even more than they are for us. And no China will be able to brighten up an irreparable loss with its efforts.
