Why It’s Dangerous To Buy A Three-Year-Old BMW 5 Series
BMW cars have always been and remain a dream for many Russian citizens. The 5th series sedan stands out because it is one of the most status models in our market. The Bavarian gives a high level of comfort, pleases with sharp handling, and the range of power sources is wide. However, buyers of a used “five” are often disappointed with a car, because a three-year-old one can literally ruin it. Why, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

“Five” in the back of the G30 is already the seventh generation of the model. The car came on the assembly line in 2016 and in 2020 it would be updated. That is, the car is fresh, but many copies have already been used in the category.

Based on the reviews posted on the Internet, we can conclude that a smart representative of the premium often brings both small unpleasant surprises and serious problems. For example, in the cold, the number of “crickets” in the cabin increases many times. This irritates many people. If there is a sunroof in the roof, it will creak in the winter, move with a blockage, or may not open at all. Needless to say, the hatch breakdown is a devastating story. Finally, small scratches immediately appear on the glossy finish around the “automatic” selector and the interior loses its presentation. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done about this.

In the chassis we notice problems with the front shock absorbers. There were cases where they failed on a 10,000 kilometer run. They were replaced under warranty so buyers of used “fives” should know as this could happen again.

The “five” has a whole range of power units, but we’ll talk about the most popular. So the 2-liter B48B20 gasoline engine suffers from the fact that its revolutions begin to “float”. The root of the problem is a faulty mass airflow sensor. And the EGR valve can become clogged with debris and the car will idle.

“Diesel” B47D20 suffers from timing chain wear. Since the chain is installed at the back of the engine, replacing it can literally leave the owner without pants. And on trips in excess of 70,000 km, a crankshaft pulley fracture is likely. It is made of rubber, which means that the lifespan is very limited.

Finally, BMW owners like to step on the gas. And they don’t have enough regular engine power, so they often chip their cars. That is, they change the default program for controlling the drive unit. This increases power and torque. But fuel consumption also increases. And with regular loads, the oil consumption for waste will increase. All this will have to “untangle” the new owner. Therefore, we would not advise choosing a sedan that has passed through the hands of tuners.
