Quickly repair a flat tire yourself with a screw?
The principle of “like cures like” has found a completely unexpected application in the repair of car tires. The AvtoVzglyad portal reveals a little-known life hack.

A fairly common situation: you drive yourself, drive a car and at some point you notice that one of the wheels drops noticeably. Or: you run into a plank that suddenly “pops up” under the floor of the vehicle in front and you immediately get a flat tire in a pair of tires, “acquainted” with the nails sticking out of the piece of wood. Unfortunately, in such situations, it turns out that the tire shop is far away. Or problems with the “reserve” are revealed. And in the event of a simultaneous puncture of several tires at the same time, even the perfect condition of the spare tire will not help to move forward. But in such a situation, when calling a tow truck already seems to have no alternative, you can fix everything yourself using a non-standard, but effective means.

True, you need to solve this problem in advance and put in the trunk of a car a set of self-tapping screws, modernized in a certain way. In particular, it is necessary to grind the tip of each such self-tapping screw in advance, we do not need it, and then saw off a threaded segment from the end – 1.2-1.5 cm long. end of this workpiece we make a cross-cut – so that it was possible to screw in our “screw” with a conventional screwdriver. So, you need to prepare several “plugs” with a diameter of 5, 7, 8 and 10 millimeters. A pair of each size.

Note that the thickest of them is designed for holes up to 5 mm in diameter. In addition to a set of such “plugs”, you need to take a tube of tire sealant in the car. To seal a puncture with their help, it is necessary to take into account that the diameter of the “cork” should be twice the diameter of the hole – in order for a sufficient fit of the self-tapping plug to ensure. To remove a hole in a wheel, it is enough to detect it, determine the approximate diameter of the damage, select a suitable self-tapping screw, lubricate it with sealant and insert it into the leak with a screwdriver to screw. We wait for the kit to harden, pump up the wheel and drive on.

This method from the domain of “unnecessary invention is cunning” became known to our Chinese friends relatively recently. And they now sell sets of these short self-tapping screws as a “home remedy” for repairing punctures using the method described above. True, purchased self-tapping screws are slightly improved. They are covered with rubber – for a better seal of the puncture site. In domestic markets, a set of 10 such “screws” can be purchased for 1,000 rubles. Ordering via the Internet exactly the same set in China will cost a maximum of 250 rubles.
