At a meeting with members of the government, Russian President Vladimir Putin drew attention to the country’s markedly high car sales prices. Portal “AvtoVzglyad” quotes the words of the Russian leader.

– It is necessary to ensure that cars become much more affordable for Russian families in the current conditions. Despite all the difficulties with logistics, with the delivery of spare parts and so on, everyone understands where these prices come from. Despite the complexity of the logistics, the price increase, we still need to look at the validity of these prices and make cars more affordable for Russian families, Putin said.

Denis Manturov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, who took part in the meeting, replied to the president that work is being done in this direction, referring to the tools already in use to make buying a car more affordable. It seems that the minister was referring to the state program of preferential loans, which in fact has nothing to do with the reduction in sales prices set by car dealers. Putin clearly understood Manturov in the same way and demanded market surveillance so that “no one abuses and unreasonable increases” in the prices of cars, both cars and trucks.

Note that since the spring of this year, the media has been talking about the real price chaos in the car market in Russia. Then the dealers of absolutely all car brands represented in our country raised prices to unprecedented heights – one and a half, and for some brands / models twice, compared to the state at the beginning of 2022. And they are still kept at the same level, despite the strong strengthening of the ruble.

In other words, it would be more logical if the situation that has developed in the Russian car market is “solved” not by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, but by the Federal Antimonopoly Service. But during the meeting, no mention was made of her role in this case.
