The Russian fleet is aging every year and the service is moving more and more in the “grey” zone. A very difficult situation is also developing with the spare parts market. The AvtoVzglyad portal is sure that if nothing is done, the number of accidents on the road will increase significantly, and a “wave” of fakes will “cover” auto shops.
Vitaly Starodubtsev, a member of the Opora Rossii committee on car maintenance, talked about what is happening in the car maintenance market today at Moscow Polytechnic University.
The expert noted that the country’s vehicle fleet is very old and continues to age. For example, the share of vehicles older than 15 years currently exceeds 30%. And the average age of a car in Russia is 14.4 years. At the same time, the introduction of simplified technical regulations risks leading to an increase in the number of accidents.
In terms of service, we now have about 75,000 filling stations, 57% of which are so-called garage stations. Moreover, it is they who provide work for 70% of car repairers. But it’s not all bad news. The exit of many spare parts manufacturers has increased the shortage in most positions and the proportion of counterfeit products currently stands at an impressive 30%.
There is also a serious problem with gas stations accessing technical information from car manufacturers. Now less than 10% of all repair shops have such an opportunity. A very sad fact as it is the customers who suffer in the first place. Especially if, for example, the “German” had a serious problem with the electronic “filling”. Many Russian car services are simply unable to install new software from a Western manufacturer.
And the expert said that this whole huge market is unregulated and there are no industry standards for it. The AvtoVzglyad portal is against any “regulation” and believes that the market economy will put everything in its place, but the numbers given are alarming. Indeed, in the near future, citizens will not be able to buy new cars, and electric cars are rare and expensive. So the gas station market should be “whitewashed”, but this should only be done through market methods.
