Ideas for the development of the automotive industry were discussed today at the Moscow Poly. So far the future seems vague, but it is nice that there are already concrete proposals and developments. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells what awaits us in the near future and whether we will drive electric cars.

Recall that in August the Ministry of Industry and Trade prepared a draft strategy for the development of the Russian automotive industry for the period up to 2035. As can be seen from the explanatory notes, the department proposes investments in R&D and the organization of component production for the automotive industry in the amount of 2.7 trillion rubles. Judging by the reports of those who spoke today within the walls of the Moscow Poly, a large part of the sweet budget pie will go to the massive development of electric transport.

A pioneer in this difficult task is Rosatom. The company Renera, which is part of the company, has already developed traction batteries for electric cars. They will be produced in Russia, and a giga-factory is already being built for this in the Kaliningrad region (it will come into operation in 2025).

Universal VDA modules are available with a nominal capacity of 60 Ah and 180 Ah. The weight of such a device is 12.3 kg. The modules form a battery pack that is placed under the floor or on the roof of the vehicle. Incidentally, Renera already has experience in designing such solutions. For example, she designed a battery for the Aurus project, she designed ‘chargers’ for public transport and even for sports karts.

The main driver of development is the beginning of mass production of electric trains in the country. For example, the Atom project, which is funded by KamAZ CEO Sergey Kogogin and businessman Ruben Vardanyan. Recall that the hatchback of the same name appears first, and then the crossover. The “siloviki” are not far behind. For example, the Kalashnikov Concern should launch the production of small electric vehicles by 2030 and Almaz-Antey will show an off-road vehicle by the same time.

The big problem, however, is that there is no production of lithium (the main raw material for battery production) in Russia. It ships from China, Chile and Argentina. Although there are many valuable resources in the country. Russia is among the top ten countries with reserves of valuable metal. There are also processing plants. Therefore, the concept of creating a full-cycle industry “from mine to electric vehicle” is now being implemented in the Russian Federation. In this way, all gaps in technological chains will be eliminated in the long term. Perhaps the price of electric cars will then fall.
