The “turn signal” triple flash replaced the usual single flash in the early 2000s. This can be clearly seen on different models. For example, a 1996 Volvo 850 has one yellow headlight bulb, while a 2008 Opel Astra has three. Later the “trio” was also used when the alarm went on automatically. That is, after the driver sharply depressed the brake pedal.

The transition was gradual. Initially, German manufacturers began to introduce the algorithm en masse, and around 2010 the “chip” reached Russia. At the same time, the “triple cycle” has not yet been described in any standard or regulation. It was achieved through experience. Engineers have calculated that 2-3 seconds of intermittent operation of the lamps is enough for other road users to notice the signal. Indeed, during this time you will have time to monitor the maneuver of even several cars.

Repetitive firing is also great for flow rebuilds. When the steering wheel deviates even a small angle, the “turn signal” is not automatically switched off. This means you don’t have to press the lever again to indicate your intention. But with the standard operating algorithm, the driver is forced to hold it with his fingers or constantly “pull the flash”.

But if the “turn signal” flashed too often, you should be wary. This indicates that one of the bulbs is burnt out or defective. Accordingly, according to the algorithm, the other works more often – as if signaling a malfunction.

Realizing that such a scheme for the functioning of optics is convenient, many used car owners began to actively modify their cars, changing the wiring and relays. However, such work must be carried out with technical knowledge, otherwise a short circuit will occur.
