One of the most serious problems of winter driving in the city is related to the fact that after snowfall, roadside assistance agents actively use special reagents that do not always bring the desired effect. Often they provoke the appearance on the roadway of a semi-liquid substance from a mixture of dirty water and semi-melted snow. This significantly increases the risk of an accident. Portal “AutoVzglyad” tells how to act in such a situation.

During the summer rains, we often encounter a very unpleasant phenomenon called aquaplaning. It is so dangerous that even in the traffic rules there is a special paragraph on how to deal with it. And it seems that you don’t have to worry about it in winter. But that was until the massive use of special reagents began.

Under certain weather conditions, they can turn snow or ice not into water, but into a strange dirty substance that accumulates on the roadway and can cause so-called slash planning (from the English slash – to cut through and planning – to slide). What is it? This is a phenomenon where even winter tires with a good profile cannot squeeze the salty snow-ice slurry out of the contact patch.

Moreover, at the moment of contact of the wheel running on this mixture, part of it is pressed and turns into ice again, and part in the form of dirty slurry forms a wedge between the slippery surface and the tire. And because the density of this slurry is much greater than that of water, the effect of the loss of contact between the tire and the road occurs at significantly lower speeds. But that is not everything. Due to the higher density, the mean substance provides an even greater inhibitory effect.

As a result of the combination of these factors, the car practically ceases to be controlled and can very sharply change the trajectory of its movement, frightening the driver. Yes, and the people around. In this case, as a rule, it is not just about changing the position of the body in space.

Since the front wheels experience a great deal of rolling resistance, there is a high risk of the rear wheels slipping uncontrollably. That is, in a slip. There is another negative effect. The fact is that in any case, dirty splashes fall on the car windows, making them completely opaque. So what do you do to avoid this situation?

The simplest thing is to avoid hitting such parts of the road, which is not always possible. And if it is not possible to avoid contact with the “porridge”, we try as actively as possible, but it is safe for those who lag behind, to slow down and overcome the dubious territory on “straight” wheels, after turning on the wipers.

If, despite this, it was not possible to reduce speed, we try to map out a safe trajectory of movement in advance, and with the so-called even throttle, while maintaining a small thrust, we overcome the dangerous section. In case of problems with directional stability, we perform correction of the direction of movement using the steering wheel. But we try to avoid large amplitudes. Otherwise you can cause loss of control.

Unfortunately, it is not always the case that such problems can arise on a dirty road. Often it is the cleaning equipment that creates such traps, diligently beating the dough from dirt, reagents, snow and a strange gray substance that is always present on the roads of megacities.

As a rule, this mud lies on the road markings, where it is already quite slippery. The AvtoVzglyad portal recommends avoiding unnecessary maneuvers on special road equipment and not exceeding a reasonable speed.
