In winter it is very common to see a driver dressed as if preparing to conquer the North Pole behind the wheel. Perhaps this saves him from freezing, but only after the civilian has an accident due to his equipment. Why, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

Yes, it’s cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you have to ride in outerwear. Winter hats, jackets, gloves and warm boots can cause huge driving problems. After all, they upset the delicate balance of human interaction with the car, impair visibility, reduce the information content of controls and make you sluggish and clumsy.

Simple situation. I was driving, without touching anyone, when suddenly the car on my right started actively building against my side. And I just don’t have any wiggle room. There is an attack on the left and other cars in front and behind. In an attempt to attract the attention of the gladiator approaching the ram, I press the sound signal, after which, clearly startled, he returns to his lane.

Looking closely at the “opponent”, I find some strangeness. A large raccoon sat on his head, gently covering his ears and partially his eyes with his paws. More precisely, it was not a raccoon, but a raccoon hat. And so fluffy that the driver’s head was simply not visible. And if so, then most likely he could barely use his eyes fully to assess the situation. Hence the odd move. It seems that nothing terrible is happening. However, this is not the case at all.

The fact is that outerwear does not give you the opportunity to effectively drive a car. Especially in winter conditions, where the driver needs the skill to quickly and accurately analyze the situation, form an action plan and execute it with hands and feet.

But how is that possible when a huge winter boot simultaneously hits the accelerator when you step on the brake pedal? At the same time, it is also difficult for you to accurately dose the effort. But when driving on slippery surfaces, jewelry work with pedals is necessary. By the way, if you use winter shoes with very thick soles, you will most likely need to readjust your driver’s seat as well.

A hat, especially if we are talking about fur earflaps from the time of expeditions to the North Pole, not only significantly limits visibility, but also greatly complicates an adequate assessment of the situation. And that makes it difficult to adjust the operation of the climate control. And you risk overheating the gray matter of the brain, which is responsible for your adequacy.

Wool gloves, mittens and other hand muffs do not allow good contact with the handlebars. Cold wool or synthetics interact very unreliably with the steering wheel. And if the size of this item of clothing is also large, there will be an extra clearance in the contact area of the hands and the handlebars. And this is absolutely unacceptable, because in winter a lot begins to depend on how quickly and accurately you can turn the “steering wheel” in an emergency.

But if you use thin leather gloves, they, on the contrary, will help to make more effective contact with the steering wheel. True, in winter, as a rule, thin leather gloves are not used. Do you remember the tragic fate of Isadora Duncan? She was strangled by a scarf wrapped around the steering wheel of the car she was traveling in.

You should not try to repeat her “feat”, especially with your own hands. With active maneuvers, you can wrap a scarf around the steering wheel, and then everything will depend only on how strong or hardy you are.

Therefore, the AvtoVzglyad portal recommends removing outerwear that restricts movement while driving and wearing comfortable shoes. In some cases, if the budget allows, you can even have special riding shoes. And when you get out of the car, just put on street shoes. After all, safety comes first.
