They are given away or sold for free when buying a car – it all depends on the dealer’s greed.

Inexperienced drivers or people who “drive” are often tempted to leave such carpets for the winter: they say that OME is original equipment, which means that you can use it all year round without spending money on nightmarish Soviet “troughs” or newfangled EVO – models. However, this “strategy” has three very major drawbacks that you should be aware of in order not to end up in expensive repairs.

Firstly, winter is a muddy season: the carpet is constantly wet and cannot be dried with a heater. Therefore, the feet are always in the “water”. But this is the least of the problems. The second point is what’s under the rug. In old cars, this is the bottom, which tends to rot from constant moisture. Even in the 41st Moskvich, the carpet was laid not on iron, but on a heater, which miraculously perfectly absorbed liquid. In general, a cloth rug is the fastest way to get a hole under your feet. And the third point is electrical. In new cars, not only insulation and sound insulation “lie” under the floor, but also wire braids, which are almost always under “pressure”. Contact with water quickly leads to a whole wreath of errors on the dashboard. By the way, the same applies to the wires under the “cleaned up” themselves: being in a constant “aquarium”, they quickly oxidize, and one day, when it comes to ECU units, they simply refuse to work.

But it’s one thing to find new shoes, and quite another – in a huge mop of a single rotten thread and its “partners” are ready to “repeat success” in the very near future. Very long and expensive. Especially if you want to do it “according to the factory” and not switch to the classic “snot”.

So the idea of ​​abandoning fabric mats and saving on traditional rubber mats is extremely unfortunate, and carries an incredible potential cost. Definitely not worth it.
