Mazda Atenza – as Mazda6 is called in Japan and China – celebrates its 20th anniversary. In honor of this event, the car manufacturer not only rolled out a restyled version, but also a special version of the 20th Anniversary Edition. Signature features of “holiday” sedans and station wagons include a heavy chrome grille, 19-inch mirror-effect wheels and, of course, special nameplates.
As for the update (already the third for the third generation, by the way), it mainly affected the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D turbodiesel: from now on, this engine produces not 190, but 200 forces – thanks to the new software. In addition, the Japanese reconfigured the power steering and accelerator pedal, which became more responsive, and also added a traffic assistant in traffic jams and on the highway to the equipment list. And on this list of technical innovations, in fact, ends.
Externally, the restyled Mazda6 can only be recognized by the new exterior colors: white pearl and gold metallic. Although their Japanese drivers won’t be seeing them on the road anytime soon, the refreshed cars won’t arrive in local dealer showrooms until next spring. But orders are already being taken: the starting price is 2,962,300 yen (1,370,000 rubles at the current exchange rate).
It is very likely that we will also be able to evaluate the updated Mazda6 – even if the brand has finally said goodbye to Russia. Parallel imports are flourishing in the country: the current Atenza can already be found at dealers and private traders, which means that they will most likely bring in a restyled copy next year.
