It’s amazing, but even the most experienced music lover, cutting unimaginable rap at full volume in the car, personally turns down the sound of the stereo system when reversing or when the road conditions become not very comfortable. But why he does this, the AvtoVzglyad portal figured it out.

The human brain is designed in such a way that whether we like it or not, it actively responds to external stimuli. In particular, like music in a car, which has long become an integral attribute of a modern car. Adding comfort and premium to the car, having the effect of involvement, it easily imposes certain emotions on us, and therefore thoughts. And while we can do several things at once, the resources of the gray matter are not unlimited. The louder the music, the more annoying it becomes. Which, unfortunately, can lead to serious driver distraction. But that is not everything.

The AvtoVzglyad portal has already said that from the sounds of the vehicle one can understand not only the degree of serviceability, but also the type of road surface, the presence or absence of skidding. Even the adhesion coefficient with the road. In addition, other participants in the movement also make sounds. So, listening to loud music, we deprive ourselves of a large amount of useful information, imperceptibly putting us in a state of isolation from the outside world.

Of course there are still eyes. However, their problem lies in the limited field of view. And we can easily fail to see what we could hear. For example, overtaking by another car from the dead zone. Or an approaching motorcyclist. There’s another problem.

Surely you have encountered a situation where a firecracker exploded next to you. Instinctively your head immediately turned to the loud sound. And it’s hard to fight instincts. And when a powerful music system tries to blow up the car from the inside by pressing your eardrums against the skull, you subconsciously have to fight against instinctive attempts to distract yourself from driving.

The danger of music also lies in the emotional perception of it. It can discreetly prepare you for aggressive driving. Or make smugly calm and not ready for action. And the bad thing is that against the background of such an emotional adjustment, a person rarely realizes that his safety has been under the detrimental influence of the infotainment system.

However, the instinct for self-preservation is not dormant. When driving conditions become clearly dangerous, it tries to penetrate your consciousness. There is fear. And then you still turn the music system down or off completely. And most often – when you try to move backwards. And this has nothing to do with the fact that we want to hear the characteristic creak of the expensive bumper of our iron horse.

Only reversing is difficult even for experienced drivers, and in this way they try to simplify their task by reducing the load on the brain. After all, when we go backwards, we no longer rely on reflexes. We try to carefully think through every action, solve a complex geometric problem, how to squeeze a 4-meter car into a parking cell 3 meters 80 centimeters long.

By the way, knowing about this feature of a person, the developers of modern cars forcibly reduce the volume of the infotainment system when parking. And not just for you to hear the signals from parking sensors.

In other words, the AvtoVzglyad portal does not recommend listening to loud and, moreover, aggressive music while driving. The sound level of multimedia should not distort the perception of the overall picture of the car’s movement. And when driving conditions become tense, the volume should be turned down or the radio turned off completely.
