When the Russian-Chinese Sollers Atlant gets all-wheel drive

0

At the presentation of new products from Sollers – commercial models Argo and Atlant – the head of the company Adil Shirinov said that the manufacturer plans to start production of all-wheel drive modifications. In particular, Atlant may receive a 4×4 version as early as 2024.

Curiously, Sollers plans to develop an all-wheel drive transmission for slightly modified JAC “trucks” himself. As, incidentally, and the version with extended wheelbase. True, representatives of the brand did not go into details.

Let’s assume that the French Dangel design, which is used, for example, on the FIAT Ducato, can be taken as a basis. But this is an extremely dubious path – the probability of failure is high, because the Europeans may be against the use of their technologies for obvious reasons.

On the other hand, the four-wheel drive transmission can also become a proprietary development based on Chinese components and assemblies. In addition, as mentioned, Argo and Atlant have become JAC: N25 and Sunray models. So engineers can use a BAIC transfer case or a Korean Dymos when sanctions ease.

Finally, if we assume that the Atlant is structurally similar to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the task of designing an all-wheel drive version is simplified. After all, the “German”, unlike the “Chinese”, has all-wheel drive modifications. And if those same sanctions don’t get in the way, things will go even faster.
