The Tinder Hustler by Netflix has become the most watched documentary on the platform. Achieving the feat in just 28 days, Simon Leviev’s story has surpassed 166 million hours watched on the streaming platform. Netflix revealed this information during its US quarterly financial report last Tuesday (19).

Released on February 2, 2022, the documentary tells the story of fake billionaire Simon Leviev, who changed his last name to Leviev with the intention of feigning kinship with the Leviev family, which owns a diamond trading empire.

Simon then approached the women, pretending to be rich, taking them to expensive dinners, and traveling around. Having won the trust of the victim, he demanded the transfer of a large amount of money, referring to false complications. After the transfer of money, Simon disappeared from the life of the victims.

Directed by Felicity Morris, the Tinder Hustler documentary surpassed Scenes from a Murder: Family Mate, which had previously been the most viewed documentary on the platform. Both films explore real cases (“True Crime”), detailing how the crimes were committed, which grabs the viewer’s attention.

The revelation was made in the quarterly financial report released to the US market on Tuesday (4/19).

Fraudsters also fall into the coup d’état

Following the success of the documentary, Simon Leviev eventually gained significant exposure in the international media and profited greatly from his image. However, it also attracted the attention of some people who were eager to take advantage of it.

And there was no other: the swindler got into a coup. While trying to verify her profile and that of Simon’s girlfriend Kate Conlin, the woman contacted the scammer and claimed that her boyfriend would work at Meta and could verify his profile.

The information was obtained by the TMZ website and indicates that a transfer of 6,000 euros (about 34,000 reais in direct conversion) was requested after the alleged video conference to ensure authenticity. Believing that he would receive confirmation, Simon completed the translation.
