NTI Avtonet discovered on the Internet an increase in the number of advertisements on hacker sites offering Russian customers the service of hacking “smart” cars remotely. Portal “AutoVzglyad” got acquainted with the details.

– Malefactors started to offer services in computer hacking of cars. A new breed of smart car hacking is actively gaining momentum in the shadow segment of the Internet. In the advertisements published, the attackers offer remote hacking of the vehicle, theft of on-board computer data and the removal of mechanical parts. The cost of the service ranges from 45,000 to 100,000 rubles depending on the region, according to a report distributed by Avtonet.

The organization’s experts suggest that “remote hacking” was the criminal services market’s response to the shortage and high cost of auto parts in Russia. Among the attackers’ potential customers are the owners of “garage” car services, who use stolen spare parts to repair cars. Autonet believes that in 2023, the number of car thefts and burglaries will actively increase due to difficulties in buying new cars and a shortage of parts in the Russian spare parts market, reports RIA Novosti.

Note that the experts mentioned above have not specified what they mean by the term “smart car”. Either this, in their opinion, is a kind of vehicle equipped with self-driving elements, or just a modern passenger car crammed with electronics.
