Why do experienced drivers periodically inflate and inflate the wheels of a car?

The vast majority of drivers do not remember their car’s tires between the seasons. Except with a flat tire. And here it is quite possible to come across a very unpleasant surprise caused by the lack of attention to wheel matters. The AutoView portal explains why this happens and how to avoid problems.

Pretty common situation: you go to the car in the morning and it has a flat tire. Or a few if you parked so rudely at night that some local “Robin Hood” decided to hint at “unsportsmanlike conduct” this way. Be that as it may, but for such cases you carry a pump in the trunk. For example, to inflate a tire that has “caught” a nail and try to reach the nearest tire service, while the air slowly leaves the hole. After all, you usually don’t want to arrange all these “dances with a tambourine” called “installing a spare tire.”

But if you have not touched the “rubber” of your car for a long time – it is inflated, well, God bless – your intentions to pump up the wheel may not come true. It looks like this. You put the tip of the pump hose on the “nipple”, turn it on. But instead of inflating normally, the device’s gauge arrow almost flies past the scale, showing some kind of wild pressure. New attempts give exactly the same result: the air does not want to enter the tire. If you drive a car with wheels without air valve covers, the reason for what is happening is mundane. Road grime collected there and robbed the valve of mobility, known as a coil or nipple.

This small detail ensures that air enters the tire and not out. A typical “check valve”, if you speak strictly technically. Well, if our coil is clean, but still does not work (the wheel cannot be inflated), it is likely that it has lost its mobility due to long inactivity. “Cure” the valve is not realistic. Usually it is replaced with a new one. If a replacement is available, of course. And if you have in store a simple but indispensable device for twisting and screwing …

In short, inflating a flat tire with a malfunctioning air valve turns into a whole repair. And in order not to get into a similar situation, experienced drivers, even if everything is fine with the wheels, periodically run their coils. The driver takes the pump and deflates the tire a little, after which he inflates the tire back to normal pressure. The lifehack is simple, but few car owners practice it. But in vain.

Road debris got in there and immobilized the valve flap, also called a coil or nipple.
