The next recall involving 1,217 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs was announced right after the New Year’s holiday. Owners of cars sold by official dealers in the past five years were invited to the service.
The owners should not delay a visit to the technical center, since the problem identified by the Americans is really serious. They found that the anti-lock braking system (ABS/HCU) hydraulic control unit was not always correctly sensing the pressure in the primary circuit. As a result – “unattended” brake lights that can mislead other drivers.
But it is much worse that the system, due to a malfunction, allows you to start the engine and move the gearbox selector from the “park” to “drive” position without pressing the brake pedal. And this can lead to traditional consequences. In any case, let’s remember an American actor of Russian origin Anton Yelchin, who died under the wheels of his car (also a Grand Cherokee, by the way) due to the spontaneous unlocking of the automatic transmission. There the problem was different, but the essence is the same.
It only remains to add that as part of the recall, dealer employees will check the ABS control unit and, if necessary, reprogram it. And all this, of course, for free for car owners – at the expense of the manufacturer.
