It’s no secret that each region has its own specific road driving habits. This is a kind of local subculture, which, of course, has the right to life if it does not violate traffic rules and common sense. But there are places where breaking the rules is an established norm, and when you are there, you need to drive with special attention. Suspect the worst every moment. We are talking about areas where cars are very rare, but for some reason there are roads. And there are quite a few such locations in our country. And what is surprising: here you run the risk of being in danger.
Once the author of these lines moved a serpentine in the mountains. The asphalt is good, but the road is narrow. And the snowdrifts along the road compress it to almost a track and a half. In addition, all turns are 180 degrees, and even blind ones. Realizing that it will not be easy to pass in the event of an oncoming car, I try to stay closer to the right side of the road, especially when approaching a curve. And suddenly, from the next road bend towards me, right in the forehead, a car takes off at high speed. Yes, it’s like a one-way street.
I immediately go into emergency braking mode with a smooth drift to the right. And he slows down how he should look, at the same time going into panic mode: a whole series of feelings is replaced on his face – from complete relaxation to horror and rapid calculation of losses. Because I assumed in a way the possibility of a similar situation, we managed to pull over without hitting each other. And I thought that in this case I was saved only by the fact that I not only moved strictly within the framework of the traffic rules, but even deliberately reinsured myself, since I was not familiar with the features and configuration of this road.
But my opponent, on the contrary, was well aware of the peculiarities and the fact that there are practically no cars here. Therefore, with extreme carelessness, I “cut” corners with a turn into the oncoming lane, being absolutely sure that there would be no problems. The same happens with ignoring priority signs, running a red light and other traffic rules that local residents consider to be insignificant. Empty roads are relaxing and create a false sense of security. In addition, the lack of experience of constant interaction with other pilots leads to a decline in the general level of driving skills and even intelligence among the natives.
And taking into account the fact that they often feel like “owners” of local territories, who can get a little more than everyone else, the picture becomes even sadder. Such places and roads can therefore be much more dangerous than busy city traffic. And in such conditions it is worth driving the car even more carefully than in a metropolis.
Where motorists also have good interaction skills with other road users. And despite the high flux density, they behave more adequately. By the way, even if you do not meet anyone at all on a long journey, this does not mean that you can relax: monotonous driving very quickly tires your psyche, and here you can already get “strange” and get into an absolutely unmotivated accident.
