Attackers have found yet another illegal “key” to the wallets of gullible motorists. The AvtoVzglyad portal warns about a new scam scheme.
The newest way to ‘separate’ car owners concerns those who take their car to the gas station for repair. The driver usually leaves his phone number for employees to contact, and the scammers somehow mysteriously recognize him. Further, according to the Union of Car Services of Russia, they inform the potential victim about the need to make an additional payment for some work or parts, the need to replace those that already “popped up” during the repair. Some car owners are “guided” and transfer the necessary money using the data provided by the attackers.
Note that for such a “separation scheme” to function successfully, supposedly unknown criminals must have direct and constant access to a car service’s internal information. After all, in order to deceive the victim, they need to know that her car is really under repair, and also know about the work being done on the car. And this suggests that this type of fraud can only be carried out by an employee of a car service or a person who has connections at the gas station.
