A recent change at Uber forces the company to receive notifications from Procon-RJ; To learn more

At the beginning of April, we reported on the latest news from Uber: the possibility for drivers to know the final destination of the requesting passenger, along with the total cost of the trip, and thus be able to decide in advance whether to accept it or not. This change divided opinion, but despite being welcomed by staff, it resulted in a notice Procon-RJ company.

According to the agency on the Rio de Janeiro City Hall website, the new practice could “cause consumers to wait longer and not accept races because the app’s score takes into account the presence of cars near the user.” So Uber needs to provide some clarification.

Uber will have to answer if it will take any action if a passenger waits longer than the time calculated by the app, and if there are mechanisms in place to mitigate any increase in cancellations due to the final destination.

In addition, the company should also communicate what measures it will take to minimize possible car inaccessibility in less accessible areas, as well as plans to reduce the rejection rate.

For Procon-RJ technicians, changes to the app will create scenarios where, even if vehicles are close to the consumer, they will have difficulty reaching if the final destination is too far away or inconvenient for the driver.

“Recent changes to the platform could harm consumer rights in a way that cannot be,” commented the organization’s executive director, Igor Costa. “It is worth noting that if there is a possibility of delivery, the service cannot be rejected without good reason by the supplier, who was willing to accept the risks of the activity.”

Novelty seeks practicality for Uber, which already had problems with Procon-RJ

In a press release at the time of rollout, Uber safety manager Aracely Almeida explained the change as helping drivers better understand what kind of rides they can take.
