VW’s Kaluga site is about to come under the control of AFK Sistema. Negotiations on this subject are clearly in their final stages – otherwise such an information leak to the media would be impossible. Reportedly, the Russian company, which has not yet been seen in the automotive industry, is not going to start working in the automotive industry from scratch. Kazakhstan automaker AllurGroup is expected to be involved in the project.
At the same time, according to open data, the majority stake in this group is held by Chinese shareholders. In particular, Anhui Jiangqi Investment Co., which also owns the Russian JAC AUTOMOBILE LLC, imports JAC cars to the Russian Federation through this company. After the transfer of control of the VW plant in Kaluga to the Russian-Kazakh-Chinese corporate structure, the company will resume production of models from the previously produced range, Kommersant reports.
– The topic of the transfer of the Kaluga plant VW under the control of Kazakh companies has been developing since last summer. It was then about the presence of the Chinese FAW in this whole process. The participants in the deal, which is now being discussed, are not commenting on the situation. Therefore, it is difficult to accurately assess the parameters. I can only assume that AFK Sistema may not prove to be just an investor in the production launch. For example, it is quite capable of buying a plant from VW and then reselling its shares to Kazakh partners or directly to one of the Chinese automakers,” said Sergey Burgazliev, an independent consultant for the automotive and transportation industry.
