Bubbles of trouble: why you should look in the tank with “brake” more often

Drivers usually never touch the brake fluid reservoir stopper. And then they do not change this consumable at all. The result is serious problems up to serious accidents.

Drivers usually never touch the brake fluid reservoir stopper. And then they do not change this consumable at all. The result is serious problems up to serious accidents. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells about the signs by which it can be understood that something is wrong even with a new liquid.

“Brakes” work in very difficult conditions, even during normal city traffic, warming up to 100 degrees. Aggressive driving already “frys” it up to 180 degrees. And if you stop right away, the composition can boil. That’s why amateur drivers always “study” the brakes by doing a few laps around the track.

Let’s not forget that the consumable is hygroscopic, that is, it absorbs moisture over time. This is an inevitable process that leads to problems. For example, if a liquid has absorbed 2-3% water in a year, this will lower its boiling point by 30 degrees. That is, it will give up already at 150-160 degrees.

In the event of a sharp deceleration, this leads to the formation of vapour-air bubbles. As a result, the transfer of braking force does not take place immediately. The driver feels the so-called pedal failure, when at first everything goes normally, then the pedal goes into the void and the rest of the stroke is back to normal. So close to the accident.

Another difficulty is that some machines, especially French ones, generally require special tools to disassemble the cover. And so replacing the “brake” will not work, because air will enter it. It can be recognized by small bubbles in the tank (seen in the top photo). The result is the same as described above. A longer braking distance leads to fairly serious accidents. After all, the driver does not expect a dirty trick from the car, especially if the brake fluid is fresh.

Therefore, it is best to entrust the replacement to a proven service. A special unit will be connected there, which will pump out the old consumable and pump in a new one. After the masters pump, that is, they will bleed the system.

But the driver should not relax either. After the procedure is complete, it would be good to drive onto an empty road and brake to the ground several times with the ABS activated. This is how oxygen residues are expelled from the knot. Then you just have to get used to the delay and you can hit the road.
