This Japanese SUV is very popular with Russians. because it is still known as a very reliable car. And now that prices for cars, including used cars, have skyrocketed, this is becoming one of the main advantages of the SUV. But he also has drawbacks, which the AvtoVzglyad portal tells about.

The third generation of the model appeared in 2012 and upgrades were planned in 2014, 2015 and 2018. At the same time, technically there were no major changes.

The Outlander’s paintwork is quite strong, but the chrome starts to swell in places due to our reagents and peels off quickly. The anti-corrosion agent on the underside is weak, so after buying a used car, additional processing is desirable. The windshield is quickly covered with scratches from brushes and often disappoints with cracks that appear after warming the interior in cold weather.

As for engines, Mitsu was sold with 2 liter (146 hp), 2.4 liter (167 hp) and 3 liter (227 hp) engines. The younger versions rely on the variator and front-wheel drive, and the powerful V6 works with a six-speed “automatic”. General “painful” – the current tank of the cooling system. And the first two units do not have hydraulic tappets, so after 100,000 km they must be adjusted.

The three-liter “six” can also hold a few surprises. The timing drive here is belt driven and in the event of a breakage the valves meet the pistons. Yes, and camshaft seals often leak. Engine mounts only last 60,000-80,000 km. On the 2-liter version, their resource is twice as much.

The JF011E variator does not cause serious problems. But at first it was installed without an additional cooling radiator. And this led to overheating of the assembly, the appearance of grooves on the cones and failure of bearings. As for the working fluid, it must be changed every 30,000 km, otherwise the pump’s pressure-reducing valve will fail due to dirt.

There are no problems with the suspension. Just pay attention to the rear wheel bearings: they wear out after 70,000 km. Throw surprises and parking brake mechanisms integrated into the rear calipers. “Handbrake” stops sticking or wedging. There was even a serious recall on this occasion.

In other words, although the “Japanese” is quite reliable, some nodes require special attention and careful maintenance.
