From the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Federal Assembly, Gostiny Dvor waited for everything – until the official start of the global nuclear apocalypse. But the leader of the nation preferred to talk about something else. The AvtoVzglyad portal analyzes his speech through the prism of the interests of the country’s auto industry.
On February 21, 2023, Putin said many different words. About the history, about the current political situation, about the economy, about the culture and education of Russia. There is no special point in retelling Putin’s two-hour speech, which was clearly not given to his throat alone. Therefore, let’s go straight to the analysis – from the point of view of the Russian auto industry. First of all, it has become clear worldwide that military operations in Ukraine will take a very long time. When our president talks about mandatory two-week vacations for fighters, it means that the intention is to fight there for at least a few more years.
So it is foolish to hope that just about (for example, in the summer and autumn of this year) everything will calm down in Ukraine and the Russian economy will have a chance to live a truly peaceful life. In other words, international sanctions and the current situation in the country’s car market are long-standing and it is hardly worth expecting significant changes here. It is characteristic that Putin spoke extensively about all kinds of benefits and social support for the armed forces, he spoke a lot about education, help for families with children and attention for young scientists. And the industry largely received only general words from him.
For example, it is necessary to achieve a technological breakthrough in Russia, achieve independence from foreign ill-wishers, develop competencies, and so on. The details only flashed about developments in artificial intelligence. A distant allusion to car business in VVP slipped only in the sense of road construction. He “walked” on the construction of the Moscow-Kazan toll road, promising to bring half of the regional roads to a conditioned state. This is understandable: success in conducting hostilities does not really depend on the civilian car industry.
And in general: what the hell is the automotive industry if, towards the end of the speech, the Supreme Commander of the RF Forces announces that Russia is suspending participation in the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty! And then – about the readiness, in which case, to resume nuclear weapons testing.
Conclusion: in the Russian auto industry nothing will really change for the better. Well, except AVTOVAZ will one day learn how to make LADA Vesta and Largus again; Chinese car manufacturers will finally colonize the Russian market, and Russian car dealers will continue to sell foreign imported cars “in gray” – with a “margin of at least a million rubles.” Everything is stable and unchanged for many very sad years for drivers …
