Factory responsible for Tesla’s autopilot

Tesla’s Buffalo plant, known as Gigafactory 2, employs more than 800 analysts who are responsible for tagging vision data for the company’s Autopilot software training. According to a Bloomberg report, these workers reported instances of over-monitoring, including tracking keystrokes, as well as productivity plans so high that employees felt pressured not to take breaks like going to the bathroom.

In addition, workers are demanding better job security and remuneration. The union responsible for labor rights in the region also plans to organize about 1,000 manufacturing workers in Buffalo.

According to Bloomberg, Tesla did not disclose the rationale for the layoffs, but the company would have warned its employees about the use of technology in the workplace, urging them to protect the company’s commercial information. The warning was reportedly issued the day after the publication of a Bloomberg report that included quotes from several plant employees.

Last year, about 200 employees doing similar autopilot training jobs were fired from Tesla’s California facilities.
