Promise does not mean marriage: 600 new traffic police cameras will be installed in the suburbs

0

The Ministry of Transport of the Moscow Region announced the imminent expansion of the network of complexes for automatic photofixing of traffic violations – another 600 cameras will appear on the roads of the region. And this despite the promises of the authorities and the operator of the local road safety monitoring system not to increase the number of “control lines”.

At an online conference of the AvtoVzglyad portal last November, Mikhail Rodionov, COO of MVS Group, said that there will be no traffic police cameras in the Moscow region in the near future. He explained that the complexes will appear in new places – where new accident centers will be registered – solely because of the transfer of equipment from one point to another.

And what do we see now, three months later? The Ministry of Transport of the Moscow Region announces the expansion of the network of cameras for automatic registration of traffic violations. Allegedly – to improve road safety, reduce road deaths and injuries. But with this, as the head of the traffic police Mikhail Chernikov once rightly pointed out, the signs warning drivers about approaching the complex do an excellent job. Why didn’t they get away with it?

The answer is obvious: Signs, unlike cameras, “don’t cut corners.” And in the suburbs motorists are scammed how! At the end of 2022, the Moscow region ranked second (after the capital) in the ranking of regions in the number of resolutions issued. For 12 months, 31.3 million fines were handed out there (3.9% more than in 2021) for 19 billion rubles (+5.5%). In addition, in about 90% of cases, the data of the complexes became the basis for punishing drivers.
