At the beginning of the year, there were rumors that the inactive Volkswagen factory in Kaluga would be taken over by the Russian investment company AFK Sistema. Now, according to sources “familiar with the course of the negotiations,” car dealership Avilon has become the main contender for the company’s purchase.

The information that it is Avilon who will most likely become the new owner of the Kaluga Volkswagen plant was confirmed to our colleagues from RBC by several sources at once. And according to one of them, the final approval of the transaction will take place on March 3. No other details, unfortunately, no. Avilon representatives are not yet commenting on this news.

Sources from the Russian Automobile Telegram channel also report that Avilon is listed as one of the potential buyers of the Volkswagen venture. But be that as it may, no matter who eventually buys the plant – this dealer holding company or AFK Sistema – production of Chinese cars will be launched at the Kaluga facilities. According to preliminary data, a “heavenly” version of the Tiguan crossover will be assembled there. But the launch of the conveyor belt will not take place until September.

It remains only to add that the deal on the sale of the Kaluga plant involves only the transfer of the plant itself. The Volkswagen dealer, the spare parts warehouse and everything related to the after-sales service of cars are not included.
