As soon as difficult economic times come in Russia, all kinds of “businessmen” who “know 400 relatively honest ways to take money” from fellow citizens immediately become more active. The AvtoVzglyad portal talks about another fraudulent miracle device, which is credited with the ability to powerfully save fuel and create a complete “feng shui” in a car engine.

Recently, advertising sites and automotive Internet resources have been filled with proposals to re-equip every car with some sort of device that runs on plain water and produces hydrogen. The unit “continues” under various names: “hybrid hydrogen supply system (SVP)”, Hydrogen Super Smart System, “truck hydrogen generator”, “car hydrogen generator” and the like. In advertisements (usually written as if they were carbon copies), dealers of “hydrogen” gadgets indicate almost all major cities of the European part of Russia with their locations.

In particular, after installing “hydrogen on the car”, they promise “a guaranteed reduction in fuel consumption between 20 and 50%”. And yet, according to the “inventors”, “due to one hundred percent efficiency, the engine power increases to 25%.” And at the same time the resource increases by 1.5-2 times.

I cannot resist and allow myself to quote in full one more quote from this kind of lure: this nonsense will inevitably tear the mind of anyone who has at least some idea of how an internal combustion engine works.

So enjoy: “Your clean fuel only releases water and oxygen into the atmosphere instead of polluting emissions. This will eliminate pollutant emissions that poison the environment and lead to global warming.” As they say, no comment.

On closer inspection, the “Hybrid Hydrogen Power System” is a primitive set of water electrolysis equipment. It is installed in the engine compartment of the car or on the back of the cabin of the cabover tractor. And connect to the car power supply. During operation, electricity decomposes water into oxygen and hydrogen, which are sent to the engine’s intake manifold. And this hydrogen, according to merchants’ assurances, reduces fuel consumption, dramatically increases engine power, removes carbon deposits from candles and somehow brings “polluting emissions that poison the environment” somewhere.

In any case, the futility of this system is indicated by the fact that to decompose water into hydrogen and oxygen, it uses electricity generated by a standard vehicle generator. The work of which is ultimately ensured by the combustion of fuel in the cylinders.

In other words, thermal energy is first converted into electrical energy (with losses due to the efficiency of the internal combustion engine), then it is spent on water electrolysis (taking into account one more stage of natural losses in the car’s electrical system), and then it turns back into heat when hydrogen and oxygen are burned in cylinders. Where to find an increase in power and “savings” of at least something here is known only to those who sell these “generators” to gullible car owners.

Characteristically, the prices for these wonder devices are not childish at all. Depending on the region and the greed of a particular seller, a set of “hydrogen energy systems” can cost from 20,000 to 80,000 rubles! It’s funny that some sellers of this product offer to send the buyer an installation kit for the device, so that any handyman can cope with the installation. Others emphatically offer the installation of “hydrogen” on the customer’s car, since this operation requires serious qualification from the artist. For the work of which they ask 10,000 -12,000 rubles.

In any case, such a company is pure fraud. Because “saving on hydrogen” is a scam from start to finish. Although it is fortunately harmless to the engine: the engine does not get better or worse. Unless the crooked installer of the “hydrogen generator” breaks something under the hood in the course of his “work”…
