Why do brake pads suddenly start to creak in the spring?

The squealing of brakes is not only annoying, but also very destructive. And often the pads begin to make an unpleasant noise with the arrival of the first rays of the spring sun. What to do to avoid such an effect and what actually threatens it?

You don’t have to be an automotive engineering guru to understand that brake pad squealing is often caused in addition to wear and tear by moisture laced with dirt, dust and road chemicals. However, other factors are not in favor of the braking system. For example, there is a small stone between the brake pad and the brake disc. But you should not immediately fly to the nearest car service to eradicate the resulting “ulcer”. Try stepping on the brake pedal a few times – this helps in most cases. The foreign object will dislodge and no longer irritate the surprised driver.

But if the problem is not in it, the situation looks much worse. As you know, in winter, rust forms on the brake discs, and with it the pads, which can also cause a cacophony of sounds similar to squeaking or the notorious squeak. Again, systematically press the brake pedal, which in the process of mechanical stress can help solve the problem. The pad and disc rub in, “gulping down” the next layer of red plaque that has appeared.

But if rust has built up in the calipers, there is a risk of jamming the wheel. Let’s say more: such a condition can play a cruel joke on the roadway, causing a deviation of the trajectory to a full turn of the car. What it threatens, we believe, no need to tell. True, such “disasters” occur largely due to the long parking of the car in precipitation and freezing temperatures.

Let’s move on. More precisely, we crack. Often this most insidious creak appears after driving through a deep puddle, when the discs heated by friction get a sharp cooling and immediately react with unpleasant noises when braking. Often the squeaking of the pads does not stop in the future. The disease is not always cured by drying, and therefore, whether you like it or not, you will have to go for a replacement, and not even the brake pads themselves, but the brake disc, which was actually deformed by the temperature difference.
