The traffic police claim that in the first three months of 2022, the number of accidents on the roads in the Moscow region decreased by 20% compared to the data for the first quarter of 2021. And the number of deaths and injuries in accidents decreased by 10, respectively. % and 23%. But despite such encouraging data, the region wants to rein in the habit of checking the average speed of cars. Why, the AvtoVzglyad portal found out.

It is curious that in traffic accidents involving car collisions, on the contrary, the number of deaths increased by 9%. About 54% of all road deaths in the Moscow region in the first quarter of this year were precisely the cause of such accidents. Despite the fact that the total number of traffic accidents of this type has decreased by 20%.

A more than twofold increase in the number of victims of passing and side-impact collisions on the roads of the Moscow region was also recorded: from 9 deaths in January-March last year to 20 deaths in the first quarter of 2022.

– The increase in the number of deaths in passing and side collisions with a decrease in the total number of such accidents is due to incorrect choice of vehicle speed and exceeding the permissible values. The most relevant in this context is the use of the method of checking the average speed, which unfortunately has been temporarily discontinued due to the existence of legal loopholes, – Svetlana Zabolotskaya, General Director of the Union for Road Safety .
