Why Russia will soon be selling petrol with discounts en masse

A number of refineries in Russia register super stocks of gasoline and diesel ready for shipment to consumers. An excess of fuel on the market will drive gas station owners to massively implement discount programs for car owners, experts at the AvtoVzglyad portal say.

– If there are more than enough goods, we can expect sellers at gas stations to compete more actively. Accordingly, this will lead to some gas station chains introducing discounts on petrol. They will do this to increase the sales of goods. For consumers, this is a very positive story, – says Mikhail Turukalov, CEO of the independent agency “Analytics of Commodity Markets”,

In his opinion, real retail fuel prices in the country are unlikely to fall significantly and will mainly be due to discount programs. He thinks that network divisions of major oil companies and independent gas stations will resort to this way to stimulate consumers, reports RIA Novosti.

Keep in mind that the government decision of April 23 should also increase the supply of motor fuel in the Russian retail market. It requires refiners to increase the proportion of gasoline they sell on the exchange from 11% of total production to 12%. This makes fuel more accessible for independent filling stations.
