What tricks and tricks do cunning gas station employees go to to force the customer to spend extra and pay for unnecessary manipulations and services. The AvtoVzglyad portal

What tricks and tricks do cunning gas station employees go to to force the customer to spend extra and pay for unnecessary manipulations and services. The AvtoVzglyad portal discovered another relatively honest way to deceive car owners.

This story happened in one of the fairly respectable service centers specializing in repair and maintenance of Japanese cars. Our reader came there for regular maintenance. Among other things, it was necessary to replace the fuel filter. The master, who was engaged in our hero’s car, having dismantled the old filter element, told the customer who was in the repair zone something strange. For example, gasoline in the fuel tank “lives” for up to 12 days. Then it begins to decompose: it forms a precipitate that clogs the fuel system.

As proof, the repairman showed a container of fuel that had supposedly just been drained from the old filter, in which there was actually some kind of cloudiness. The car owner was particularly struck by the exact figure in the auto repair professionals’ report: 12 days in the tank – and the end of gas. Then the master began to offer, just in case, to flush the gas tank of the car, as well as the fuel line along with the pump and injectors. The total cost of these procedures turned out to be too high for the car owner at the moment. He left them and left the service after the originally scheduled maintenance was completed.

But the concern about possible problems with a personal car due to gasoline aging for 12 days did not leave him and he turned to us. To understand the problem, we turned to professionals for clarification – to the motor fuel testing laboratory ONKO-VNII NP.

There we were told that GOST 32513-2013 “Motor fuels. Unleaded gasoline. Specifications” requires gasoline to retain its basic properties for one year from date of manufacture. And under any circumstances – even in the tank of the storage of petroleum products, even in the tank of a car. It is known that gasoline changes properties over time. It partially evaporates, it undergoes a process of resinification caused by the interaction of hydrocarbons with oxygen in the air. In a year, gasoline will remain made according to GOST, for example, class AI-95, “95th”.

Because it is initially produced with a margin for all its properties – in case of long-term storage. In addition, the typical life cycle of gasoline – from the time of production to sale to the final car owner – lasts an average of 14-90 days. Therefore, it is simply pointless to talk about about 12 days in the tank, after which motor fuel would deteriorate and lose its properties. Such statements have nothing to do with reality, according to ONKO-VNII NP experts.

Thus, the AvtoVzglyad portal officially declares: the “horror stories” of military personnel about the horrors of fuel that supposedly ages and quickly decomposes in a gas tank is not worth listening to for even a minute. Accordingly, you should not succumb to a “divorce” with the imposition of flushing and cleaning the elements of the car’s fuel system.
