The festival of extreme sports and street culture “Breakthrough”, held in the capital for the 16th time, gathered thousands of spectators in the CSKA Arena, eager for spectacular shows. Freestyle motocross, stunt riding, high jumps, drifting – traumatic stunts, the highest skill, faulty equipment, thrilling falls. Yes, there really was something to see, but it couldn’t do without “styles”. And in more detail – in the report of the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

At 4:10 pm: The show was supposed to start ten minutes ago, but the arena is still dark and advertising screensavers from the event’s organizer – the Moscow City Sports Department – and its partners are still playing on the screens. Ten more minutes and there are no empty seats in the stands. “We sold out pretty quickly,” the festival managers said later. – “All tickets were sold out, only VIP rooms remained for 15,000 rubles.”

The show started half an hour late, but no one seemed very upset. The festival was opened – let’s say, came out to warm up – athletes on BMX, roller skates and scooters. We turned on the spots between the ski jumps, jumps, tuned to the audience. After them, the host went on stage: he launched the first “big” discipline – freestyle motocross. It became a major one – representatives from FMX “rolled out” several times during the show.

Last year the organizers were unable to bring foreign athletes to the festival due to well-known events, this time there were already four: the Swede Daniel Bodin, the Frenchman Sylvan Masson and the Brazilians Nicolas Ramau Barbosa Ferreira and Jonilson da Silva. They all showed mastery in the motofreestyle discipline. But enjoying the tricks of leading riders was problematic.

The fact is that eminent guests along with a dozen representatives of the Russian FMX13 team, founded by Alexei Kolesnikov, were let on the “stage”. Freestylers popped out behind the scenes one by one – without knowing who’s wearing what gear, there’s no way to identify them. Also in terms of level – it’s high for everyone. All the tricks, at least in the layman’s opinion, are difficult. Everything is neatly done.

To the applause that accompanied freestylers, “light artillery” entered the arena – BMX (small bicycles), FSX (larger), scooters, two unicycles and roller skates. But the number is basically the same: acceleration from a high rise, a jump on a springboard, some kind of trick, a landing. And here the last part was most curious – many athletes could not get on the wheels after the flight, and the rubber coating rolled down.

The next issue is stun riders. And this was perhaps the biggest disappointment of the evening. No, the guys were great – they turned beautifully on their “motorcycles”: they stood on one wheel, performed acrobatic stunts, floated. By the way, it is noteworthy that the first stunt driver in Russia, Daria Kharchenko, also performed, but not everyone could admire her. The organizers placed large springboards and trampolines extremely unsuccessfully, which divided the arena into two parts. It was only possible to observe from the center what was happening in both – journalists and other spectators, who were in the side stands, remained robbed.

The stars of the Russian Drift Series were called upon to diversify the program of the Breakthrough Festival, first rotating the “donuts” on two cars alternately, then synchronously, gymnasts, representatives of the Extrime acro discipline (from a height on a trampoline traps) . The Big Air number (a snowmobile jump led by Swede Daniel Bodin) was also supposed to take place, but instead the audience was shown a video of the fatal workout – the equipment was not up to the show. Well, for a bite, they left the rock band The Hatters.

In summary, “Breakthrough” can be rated as a “three plus”. Moments, of course, were spectacular, but generally boring. Limited visibility, a program with no semantic skeleton. The show was more of a structured but dry presentation of the athletes: While the riders performed the same tricks, the host randomly called their names. But in the absence of other entertainment that we have lost to sanctions, why not?
