The idea of using “Compass” to make a bus came to the company “SIMAZ” from Ulyanovsk. This factory now produces passenger cars based on the Japanese Isuzu. However, the original JAC, from which KamAZ, by installing another nameplate, turned out (of course, by pure chance, what happens to the “heavenly” car manufacturers), it is very reminiscent of the “Japanese” – both in layout as in design.
So the task of lifting a “simazovsky” car body on a Chinese-Russian chassis should be solved in a fairly simple way. In addition, the hybrid will, of course, turn out to be cheaper than the version on Japanese units, which will of course appeal to domestic carriers.
We add that KamAZ now produces “compasses” with a carrying capacity of 4.9 and 6.5 tons. Both rely on Cummins ISF3.8 turbo diesels with an efficiency of 154 and 168 forces respectively. The gearbox is only mechanical, while for a city bus it is better to have an “automatic”.
By the way, true connoisseurs of the Russian auto industry probably know that the GAZ Group is developing its own “automatic” – this is a hydromechanical six-speed gearbox GMP800. There was an information vacuum around this project for some time, but now new details have finally emerged, about which the AvtoVzglyad portal tells.
