OUR Windows 11 It has been available for several months now and many people have already updated their operating system. If you were one of those people who already had Windows 10 and upgraded to 11 – or are about to install a major Windows 11 update in the future – you will notice that some space on your hard drive is starting to take up “out of the blue”. “.

This is because Windows keeps a copy of your system files from an older version of Windows. This way, if you have problems updating, you can revert to a previous version without losing any data and try updating again when everything is in order.

But if you’re having trouble updating and need some free space for your files, you can delete these old files.

IMPORTANT: If you delete these old files I can not anymore restore the previous version in Windows. With that in mind, only delete files if you’re sure everything is working fine.

To remove these files, there are two ways to do so. One of them gets access to system settings and the other uses the resource Disk Cleanup. I will teach you both ways, and you choose the one you think is best:

Step 2: In settings click on “storage

You can leave the other boxes unchecked if you think other files are important. But make sure the option “downloads” is not enabled as this will delete most downloaded files.

After that, click on the button “delete files» at the top of the list. This process should take several minutes.

Step 3: After the scan is completed, you will see a list of file types that you can delete, but the files you need are not yet there. Click on the “Clean up system files“. An account with administrator rights is required.

Step 4: Look for “Cleaning up Windows Update” and check the box next to it. Make sure you don’t check other boxes that might have important files.

Step 5: click in WELL to delete files.
