The Datsun brand, revived some nine years ago, recently ceased to exist. But the Japanese are not losing hope of reviving it. Now they plan to produce low-cost electric vehicles under this brand. If so, it will breathe a third life into the Datsun.
According to Automotive News, parent company Nissan is looking for a new application for the Datsun brand. The source quoted by this source claims that Nissan is discussing the fate of the brand, which in fact is left with nothing but the name. One of the possible options is the marketing of cheap electric cars under the Datsun brand. However, as the discussion of this project is still at an early stage, it is unlikely that company representatives will officially comment on this release.
Note that the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance already has one of the cheapest electric vehicles in the world. This is Dacia Spring, for which they ask from 16,990 euros. Taking into account the subsidy, the car costs 12,403 euros in France – there is no cheaper in Europe. So it is possible that Nissan will produce an analogue of the Spring under the Datsun brand.
