Bluesky, the Twitter-funded project to develop an open, decentralized social media standard, has released the first part of its open source Authenticated Data eXperiment (ADX) protocol.

In a post titled “Working in General,” the developers noted that the release includes a personal data server, a command-line client, and a network architecture overview.

The team promised to publicly share the platform’s development process, “released before work was completed, but also gave ourselves time to develop new aspects early on.”

“Feel free to experiment, but don’t try to build your next big social app on it just yet. Something is missing and everything will change. “We wrote code as part of the research process, not for the finished product, to test ideas and identify edge cases,” the developers said.

According to them, the essence of ADX is “self-verification data”, which allows you to independently confirm actions on the network:

“Self-verification data empowers the user and stays up-to-date on every host. Users can broadcast to a service or to themselves, but they still remain part of the network.”

Bluesky stated that “without moderation it is impossible to create a usable social network.” The developers used two layers for this process concept: “talk” and “access”.

“The speaking level can be as neutral as publishing a website. The coverage layer determines what will be powered over the network.”

According to them, auditing will be done with the help of indexers, which work similarly to search engines on the Internet:

“There is no single company that can decide what to publish. Instead, there is a market for companies to determine what to offer their target audience.”

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey announced On the creation of an initiative aimed at the decentralization of social networks in 2019. In February 2022, the Bluesky PBLLC organization was born.

After the Twitter administration’s decision to sell the social network to Elon Musk in April, the project was a reminder of its independence.
