The US Treasury Department has placed the Blender.io cryptocurrency mixer and associated Bitcoin and Ethereum addresses on the sanctions list.
According to this OFACThe service helped launder funds stolen by North Korean hackers and was allegedly involved in ransomware attacks.
The agency also linked Blender.io to the March hack of the Ronin Ethereum sidechain in the Axie Infinity game, as a result of which Lazarus hackers stole $625 million worth of crypto assets. About $20.5 million of that amount went through the mixer. .
Since its inception in 2017, Blender.io has processed over $500 million in bitcoin transactions.
The sanctions list includes 46 bitcoin wallets owned directly by Blender.io and 12 Ethereum addresses associated with the hacker group Lazarus. This is the first time a cryptocurrency mixer has been included in the sanctions list.
Recall that in April, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on the BitRiver group of companies engaged in cryptocurrency mining in the Russian Federation, the Hydra darknet market and the Garantex cryptocurrency exchange.
