Google allows users to remove personal information from search results
Google has made it possible for users to remove their personal information from search results.
According to the updated privacy policy of the service, at the request of the customer, the system will stop displaying certain web pages containing their personal data. Google can remove:
sensitive government identification data, including a social security number;
Bank account number;
Credit Card Number;
handwritten signature images;
photo of identity documents;
medical records;
personal contact information, including address, phone number and email;
Login information for any account.
Google has also pledged to remove intimate personal photos, pornographic spoofs and violent images.
Meta has released the language model code with 175 billion OPT-175B parameters. The neural network is available to AI researchers on request for non-commercial use.
The company said it shared an algorithm trained on public data to help the community understand how the technology works. Meta didn’t rule out that scientists could get away with their toxicity and bias models.
By training the OPT-175B neural network using 992 Nvidia 80GB A100 GPUs, the researchers achieved 147 TFLOPS of performance per chip. According to Meta, researchers don’t have to build the algorithm and train it from scratch, as the tech giant provides the code to deploy it to 16 Nvidia V100 GPUs.
The company also provided access to pre-trained small models with up to 66 billion parameters for everyone.
Volkswagen partners with Qualcomm for drones
Volkswagen entered into a multi-year collaboration with chipmaker Qualcomm to develop self-driving technology.
Details of the deal with Qualcomm are not available. It is known that the company will supply systems-on-chip (SoC) for the Cariad platform, which provides Level 4 autonomous driving. Volkswagen integrates processors into onboard computers of all car brands.
The automaker also said it is already in talks with Israeli specialist chip supplier Mobileye.
PrivatBank launches voice biometrics technology
Ukrainian bank “PrivatBank” has launched a voice authentication system for customers who reach the support service by phone.
To use the function, the user needs to create a “dump” of the audio via the Privat24 app. After that, with each subsequent call to the hotline, the algorithm will be able to “quickly” recognize the client.
The bank said users won’t have to answer additional security questions after connecting “voice biometrics.”
Study: YouTube Child Algorithms Promotes Drugs and Weapons Content
The Tech Transparency Project found that YouTube Kids’ algorithms offer kids videos about weight loss, skin whitening, the drug subculture, and firearms.
Researchers registered three accounts for one of the age groups. It featured videos for “little kids”, a Breaking Bad-themed cooking show, and the process of making a Minecraft trailer where “crystal meth is produced.”
The platform also showed the “young children” the rating of the shock absorber butt pads that protect the shooters from the recoil of weapons, and the “older children” – instructions for mounting a rack with a hidden compartment for the pistol.
With automatic filters, human moderation, and parental feedback, YouTube Kids videos are family-friendly, but “no system is perfect,” the company said. After review, the developers removed or set age limits for tagged videos in the Kids app.
Google fires AI researcher over company criticism
Google fired another AI researcher for criticizing the tech giant’s work.
In March 2022, the company suspended computer scientist Satrajit Chatterjee for challenging a paper that algorithms could design chips more efficiently than humans, according to The New York Times.
Google representatives declined to comment on the dismissal, but said it was for “good reason”. The original article was “extensively reviewed” and peer-reviewed, and the disputing article “did not meet company standards,” they added.
Google previously suspended two leading researchers in AI ethics, Timnit Gebru and Margaret Mitchell, resulting in a series of other voluntary layoffs.
Robocar sets a new speed record among drones
The drone of the PoliMOVE team of the Milan Polytechnic Institute broke the world speed record among robocars, reaching a speed of 309.3 km / h.
The car was traveling on a flat track on the grounds of the Kennedy Space Center. The Robocar reached a speed of 309.3 km/h per 1 km in two consecutive attempts in opposite directions to counteract the effect of the wind.
Meta uses artificial intelligence to design green concrete
Meta will build new data centers for the metaverse from green concrete created with the help of artificial intelligence. The material is formulated to reduce carbon emissions by 40% and exceed durability requirements.
The tech giant trained the model on a dataset containing 1,000 concrete formulas and structural properties, including 7- and 28-day compressive strength data, with scientists from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, along with MIT and IBM. The team also determined the carbon footprint of the samples of the resulting concrete mix.
The researchers then selected the five “most promising” options and developed them over and over again. As a result, they found a formula in which 50% of the cement was replaced by fly ash and slag.
Meta worked with concrete supplier Ozinga to develop the mix and test it in the real world.
Boston Dynamics updates Spot robots
Boston Dynamics showed off the Robo dog Spot in a new No Time To Dance video at the factory.
In the video, the four-legged device performs a number of tasks in an industrial setting. The robot takes sensor readings, scans equipment with an infrared camera, creates work orders for employees, and dances.
Boston Dynamics also showed some updates on the heists.
Among the innovations:
five stereo cameras that capture full-color images and provide enhanced depth-of-field data;
tablet controller with larger screen and longer battery life;
A new system-on-chip to accelerate on-device AI processing and 5G compatibility.
Scientists developed an algorithm to identify actions in video
Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed an AI algorithm to identify actions in videos and tag them without human assistance.
The model learns to represent data by capturing concepts common to visual and auditory modalities. The system will determine that the crying baby in the video relates to the word “cry” spoken in the audio clip.
Scientists have used learning for signs. The algorithm takes raw information, including videos and their corresponding text titles, and encodes them by extracting properties of objects and actions from the video.
The AI then displays the data in the viewing area. The model aggregates similar information as separate points and expresses each in a separate word. The researchers limited the model to 1,000 words for labeling vectors.
The method also uses the common representation field. This allows the algorithm to learn the relationship between a video of someone juggling and an audio recording of the words “juggling”.
