A Moscow court has ordered the arrest of the cryptocurrency wallet of Dmitry Pavlov, who is suspected of running the Hydra darknet market.
According to Kommersant, all of Pavlov’s phones and computers were confiscated and he is cooperating with the investigation. However, the suspect refused to reveal the password for his crypto wallet.
According to Telegram channel Mash, the investigation indicates that there may be hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bitcoin in the wallet.
Recall that Hydra is one of the largest darknet markets in the world. According to US authorities, from January 2016 to March 2022, more than $5 billion in cryptocurrencies were received into wallets controlled by the site. Last year, it accounted for about 80% of all darknet-related crypto transactions.
In April, German police seized the platform’s servers and confiscated 543 BTC, while the US Treasury sanctioned Hydra.
An American court charged Dmitry Pavlov with conspiracy to administer a darknet site, provide hosting services, launder money and distribute drugs.
On April 11, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow arrested Pavlov. In the Russian Federation, he is accused of selling illegal drugs on a particularly large scale.
