We strive to not only inform readers about events in the bitcoin industry, but also to talk about what is happening in the relevant technological fields – cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) world.

ForkLog AI gathered the most important news from the world of AI last week.

  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise will leave Russia and Belarus.
  • Qualcomm has proposed a consortium of strategic investors to acquire ARM.
  • Google has banned deepfake teaching in Colab.
  • Tesla will unveil a humanoid robot at AI Day in September 2022.
  • Cruise robot taxi blocked a fire truck in San Francisco.
  • The Mayflower broke up for the third time in the Atlantic Ocean.
  • In Australia, they proposed recognizing artificial intelligence as an “inventor”.
  • The most important operations in AI.

HPE to reduce business in Russian Federation and Belarus

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has made the final decision to leave Russia and Belarus.

In February 2022, the company stopped the supply and sale of products in the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. Now, HPE has said it is “unreasonable to continue operations” in these countries and has systematically announced the end of business.

Qualcomm seeks to buy shares in ARM

Qualcomm has proposed forming a consortium of strategic investors to acquire chip maker ARM from SoftBank. The technology giant’s partners could be Intel and SK hynix.

According to Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon, the company is ready to invest in a British chipmaker. The alliance of chipmakers will allow ARM to remain independent and balance the interests of the industry, he added.

Earlier, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said the tech giant would join “any” consortium emerging to take over the British chipmaker.

Google bans deepfake training on Colab

Google has banned training models for creating deep fakes in the Colab cloud environment.

The company has also limited the use of DeepFaceLab and FaceSwap face-creation distributions. When running models, users are warned about “forbidden code” execution and a possible account ban.

But for now, developers are allowed to continue running programs.

John Deere launches subscription to autopilot for farm equipment

Mechanical engineering company John Deere will begin implementing autopilot and artificial intelligence algorithms on farm equipment on a subscription basis. The manufacturer said such a model would allow it to spur revenue growth.

The company will develop unmanned equipment that includes software for harvest management and data analysis. In the future, the manufacturer plans to collectively equip the seeding machines with systems that use satellite images and information about the state of the soil.

In the fall of 2022, John Deere will introduce the 8R tractor with autopilot, which will be sold separately.

Tesla will introduce humanoid robot in September 2022

Elon Musk announced that the Tesla AI Day 2022 conference has been postponed to September 30. There the billionaire promised to show a working prototype of the Optimus humanoid robot.

Android is based on the FSDC processor, the Dojo supercomputer, and neural networks that know and navigate the world. The height of the device is 173 cm, the weight is 57 kg and the speed of movement is 8 km/h. The robot lifts objects weighing up to 20 kg and performs “dangerous, repetitive and tedious tasks”.

Tesla plans to begin mass production of the Optimus in 2023.

Drone didn’t let a fire truck pass San Francisco

A navigating robot taxi blocked a fire truck in San Francisco, USA.

In April 2022, a private transport vehicle traveling towards a call attempted to bypass a garbage truck parked in the opposite lane. However, ahead, a drone blocked the way. As a result, the fire truck was only able to clear the traffic jam after the garbage truck had left.

According to local authorities, the incident slowed rescuers’ arrival on call, which resulted in human injuries and property damage. They added that robotic robot taxis stop “too often” in the lanes, which could have a “negative impact” on firefighter response time.

American veterans developed a system to detect weapons in video

A group of ex-US Navy SEALs developed the ZeroEyes AI system to detect weapons in schools.

The algorithm can recognize semi-automatic and automatic firearms. The military suggested that the system be integrated into cameras installed at Michigan educational institutions.

The collected data will be transmitted to the center and checked by specially selected experts around the clock. If anyone is confirmed to have a weapon, operators will notify the manager and security personnel of the potential threat and its location.

An AI early warning system was needed after the shooting that killed 14 students and three teachers at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, according to the military.

Mayflower breaks for third time in Atlantic Ocean

The unmanned Mayflower will once again cancel its transatlantic voyage due to mechanical failure. Trimaran will travel to Nova Scotia (Canada) for repairs.

According to the developers, the ship had a problem with the starter battery charging circuit of the generator. The crew had to switch to a spare navigation computer. IBM’s autonomous technologies are working as usual, they added.

After the repair, the Mayflower will sail again. It is not reported how long it will take to resolve the issue.

AI taught to break audio tracks into components

The Koala Sampler application applied artificial intelligence to automatically separate the audio recordings into components.

The system independently divides the track into vocals, drums, bass and more. This allows users to speed up the process of creating their own instances.

The update is available on Android and iOS.

Researchers propose to recognize AI as an ‘inventor’

In Australia, they proposed recognizing artificial intelligence as an “inventor”.

Researchers at the University of New South Wales said countries should legally allow AI algorithms to be deposited in patent applications. They say denying machines recognition as “inventors” could have long-term consequences for the economy and society.

“Sponsors and businesses are less interested in doing research using AI authors when the return on their investment is limited. Society may overlook the development of useful and life-saving inventions.

The researchers backed Stephen Thaler, founder of Imagination Engines, who was trying to record two breakthroughs on behalf of the DABUS neural network in several countries.

The most important AI deals of the past week

From May 29 to June 4, 2022, AI startups exceeded $150 million. Here are the most interesting trades.

  • South Korean AI chip maker Rebellions received $50 million.
  • Onramp Funds has raised $42 million to support an AI platform to fund small businesses in the e-commerce space.
  • Ordr has raised $40 million to expand a systems development team that will protect IoT devices from cyberattacks.
  • The creators of the NLP platform for One AI received $ 8 million.
  • Strong Compute has raised $7.8 million to develop tools to accelerate the learning of AI models.
  • Mintlify raised $2.8 million to develop software to automatically generate documentation from code.
